Minimalism on a Maximalist Scale

Branding and designing the Milwaukee Art Museum exhibition, An-My Lê: On Contested Terrain, presented a unique opportunity to craft a cohesive visual experience that extended across large exhibition wall layouts, digital and print ads, and all supporting materials.

As the first comprehensive survey of An-My Lê’s work, the exhibition required a design approach that complemented—rather than competed with—her powerful imagery. Collaborating with the Museum’s exhibition designer, David Russick, we balanced minimalism with a maximalist scale, ensuring the visual identity framed her bold, expansive photography without distraction.

The result? A thoughtful, immersive design that enhances the impact of Lê’s work while maintaining a seamless connection between the exhibition’s physical and digital presence.
